Hanoi is a cultural center filled with temples, pagodas and historical monuments that offer travelers an authentic yet eclectic Asian experience. Because of such claims, Hanoi became US-based Frommer’s travel magazine’s one of the 12 most attractive destinations for year 2010, which is something Hanoi has certainly lived up to. It is then not surprising to know that tourists getting to Hanoi have been surging in numbers.

The popular travel magazine describes the city as a thousand year-old thriving metropolis with a French colonial soul. In addition to such historical claims, the city has a colorful eating scene with both side-street stalls and fine eateries. It has been labeled as Asia’s “Most Asian City”, also according to the magazine. With the magazine’s claims alone, there are already a few great reasons for tourists to book their flights to Hanoi immediately.

People may get to Hanoi by train or bus but most people prefer to travel by plane. Hanoi’s small international airport, Noi Bai International Airport is a little less frequented by international airlines compared to the airport found in Ho Chi Minh City. Nevertheless, there are still some airlines that offer to and from Hanoi flights.

Getting to Hanoi by air is possible using Malaysia Air System, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Vietnam Airlines and Pacific Airlines. Aside from the mentioned airlines, a quick aircraft change in Bangkok or Hong Kong can easily get you to and from Hanoi as well.

If coming to Hanoi within Vietnam, the best option for domestic connections is by Vietnam Airlines. Other than being the main and most convenient option, it is a good and affordable choice to travel to Hanoi from other regions of Vietnam.

Getting to Hanoi by land is also possible as the city has several buses and each serves a particular area. These buses are fairly well-organized with ticket offices, flat prices and fixed schedules. Consider buying your tickets a day before your planned travel to ensure you have a seat, especially in longer-distanced routes.

Upon arrival in Hanoi, passengers will be able to get off in corresponding bus stations depending on which part of Hanoi they wish to visit. The bus station of Kim Ma is located in Central Hanoi, the Gia Lam Bus Station is found in the northeastern part of Hanoi, the Giap Bat but station serves the south of Hanoi, while the bus station of My Dinh is another alternative located west of the town.

Another option to get to Hanoi by land is by use of the Main Hanoi train station located in the western tip of Pho Tran Hung Dao. Trains from here come and go to different destinations in the south. Travelers can easily purchase tickets for southbound trains as staff members can speak Basic English. It is also advisable to buy tickets at least a day before departure to ensure a seat or sleeper. The train station is located about a kilometer from the center of the town.

Getting to Hanoi can easily be done in order for tourists to experience the wonderful city of Hanoi. Being part of Frommer’s travel guide top destinations 2010 should already be reason enough to visit the great city.
